FYR's menu is generally focused on meats & they serve sharing platters as well as individual mains which I thought was pretty value for money! Pricing is pretty standard for the type & quality of food that they offered.
Rice chips(?) with salsa - P said that this is normally served when you're waiting for dining companions to arrive but we asked for it which is good because these were really yummy. It's thicker & harder than other chips but it was still good, and the salsa was some addictive mixture of sweet sour and a little spicy. I don't know if it's refillable but you should definitely ask. & Also ask for a pack to bring home. & more to give me.
We got the Seafood Saffron Risotto ($48) which is meant for sharing between 2-3 pax. We shared it amongst the 3 of us but it's definitely not enough if that's all you're planning to order. I could probably demolish the whole pan if I'm feeling extra hungry (idk maybe i eat like a monster). The consistency was good (not too creamy & not too dry) seafood was pretty generous - perfectly cooked calamari, prawn, etc., and it was pretty rich & flavourful, but tbh I kind of expected a little more aroma? fragrance? Since the description has saffron & lobster broth & lemongrass (!!!) I kinda felt that the smell of the saffron didn't really surface. But it was still a good dish & a good risotto always makes me happy
P also got the Ribeye (Grain Fed US Holstein Cow Ribeye 365 Days, $32) which came with mashed potatoes and two sauces of your choice (we picked black truffle & foie gras, obv). This was an ok dish for me - the beef was decently cooked, but it wasn't anything that would make you dance on the table for. It's satisfying in the way a well cooked steak always is, but it wasn't melt in your mouth good or anything.
The salad they served on the side was kind of surprising for me though (bec I don't usually like those & almost never finish them) because they don't use generic balsamic vinegar & olive oil as dressing (which I hate!) so that was a nice surprise. The sauces were a letdown though bec they honestly didn't taste like either truffle or foie gras, both of which should have really distinct flavours! ): BUT the mashed potatoes were a redeeming factor - smooth, creamy, and everything mashed potatoes should be.
& NOW! On to desserts!!! Which you should 100% save room for (if you are not a fatty like me who always has room for desserts no matter what) because this will make you want to come back. again. and. again.
We got both the Baked Pistachio Melt & Pandan Ice Cream as well as the Banana Parfait (each $10) which are both served on hotplates.
The Banana Parfait was relatively normal - you get the chocolate coating on the outside & grilled banana on the inside. It honestly lacked texture & layers - maybe a crust or crumble to balance the mushiness of banana & sauce? This dish has the potential to be something more exciting, otherwise it's not really worth the $10.
BUT. This. Dish.
Put that banana parfait to SHAME. It was beautifully green for one, & oozed perfectly when you cut it open. The nutty pistachio flavours help to prevent it from being overly sweet and somehow matched really well with the pandan ice cream, which had just enough pandan fragrance. Somehow mixing hot and cold together is almost always a good idea. Please. Order. This!!! Don't Share!! Eat it all up yourself!!
And what I really liked about this was that they give you free! chocolate! at the end of the meal! Which J wasn't that excited about bec she doesn't eat chocolate but I was!! Obviously chocolate at the end of the meal would be frowned upon by fancy people who believe in cleansing the palate but who cares! yumzzz.
Altogether we really liked the place, and I will definitely be back to try more items (oysters, the sharing platter), try the brunch menu (which apparently only happens some weekends ): ) and eat that pistachio melt again so please await more updates! There were some hits & misses with FYR, but they do have a lot of interesting ideas & the food is pretty satisfying, so it's enough for me to plan for a return trip (when I hopefully have more $$$)
