And... here's what was the real highlight of my Copenhagen trip - a meal at kiin kiin - the only Thai restaurant outside of Thailand with a michelin star! SO worth my money - it was one of the best meals I've ever had and I was just blown away by the impressive showmanship + different tastes and components! so so glad to have gotten a chance to try it (without reservation!) and am quite seriously thinking about returning to Copenhagen just to eat this

I went there at 530pm just as they opened in the hopes of getting a seat, because it was an impromptu trip and so didn't manage to make any reservations! The waitress almost turned me away, but I mentioned that I was looking at the theatre menu (served 530 to 730pm - and only 4 courses but we'll get into that later) so she said she could slot me in for that night! Never have words made me happier o my

The menu is designed and fixed, so you don't have to decide anything except what drink you want (they offer wine pairings, but I wasn't really into that) and she brought me upstairs to the dining area, which could've been more spacious, but the staff were well-trained and moved around smoothly enough you don't feel overwhelmed.

Now I said this was a theatre menu with only 4 courses, but in reality I got to try SO MUCH food! They started with 10 different snacks, which are just really small portions of really interesting food. There was the pandan? lemongrass? tea that I didn't get a photo of, and the above lotus root crisp. Lovely refreshing start to the meal.

Then next was this soy cashew meringue that was served with wasabi mayo. This comes served in a pot of sesame seeds, where they proceed to do the "magic" and swirl the pot till the little meringues appear haha little theatrics to entertain you while you eat.

Next was this thai-style salad (sorry I can't quite remember exactly what was in it heh) served in this tiny little cone. Again very refreshing and appetising! Not to mention cute haha presentation 10/10.

Then was this chicken heart snack served in what looks like an egg shell - sorry you can't see very clearly. I liked this! Mostly because I am obsessed with innards haha. All the snacks were served really quickly one after another but it's really interesting because the tastes really develop one after another

Ok I wish I remembered what this was, but all I remember is that it was.. cold? My memory fails me

Grilled baby squid! This smells sooo good and it's really tender! I also have a thing for squid and octopus sigh they really are so amazing grilled

Again, I can't quite remember this, I just know that there was pork crackling on top, haha.

Ooh this thai sausage was served in this bell jar which they open in front of you to give you the smoky smell of the streets of Bangkok (yeah it really does smell amazing and I love the small talk and interaction they have with you it really completes the experience)

AND FINALLY the first course! I really don't know if I'm missing a snack but who cares let us BEGIN. Here is the salad with fish! And the early onset of dementia is killing me because I can't remember what fish it was WHAT EVEN. But again with the theatrics, they pour the fish sauce over that poofy cloud which then dissolves! Fish sauce was lovely and all the flavours really complimented each other, but what made it amaze was the fish! (see it was amazing and I still can't remember what fish exactly what is wrong with me?!) It was lovely and crispy outside and all soft and fluffy inside and my question is just - why were there only two tiny pieces?!?!

And the second course - a fancy/modern/gastronomical take on red curry - and served with all the fancy effects like how we used to play with dry ice haha. This had lychee and langoustine and it was an interesting combination of flavours and the langoustine was perfectly cooked, but I kinda just found the coldness a tad strange /: but all eaten together was still good I guess

THIS. This is the dish I am STILL dreaming of. The dish I thought I was too full to finish. But I could be full and still eat 10 plates of this because it is BOMBDIGGITY. And I don't know who even says bombdiggity. This is a beef dish - flat steak on top with ox tail below, served with rice and oyster sauce mix that they prepare right in front of you. THIS OYSTER SAUCE. I don't even like normal oyster sauce but this was AMAZING. And according to the danish recipe book on the table this is made with like 20 oysters?! Really amazing flavours, cooked to perfection, matched with the perfect herbs and spices, ahhh everyone needs to eat this. I really am salivating just looking at it sigh. Didn't think I could finish the rice after all the food I had been eating but just with the sauce alone I could eat bowls and bowls of rice!!!

And for a lovely end to the meal there was banana cake with salted coconut ice cream and homemade caramel sauce. The banana cake on its own was good but wouldn't have impressed me too much, but the overall combination made a really good end to an impressive meal - I really liked the ice cream it was insanely smooth and the flavour was great; the caramel sauce was perfect and not too cloyingly sweet, and I love how they have all these components for the perfect taste and texture combination - exactly what I had been getting the whole meal.

Please anyone who is going to Copenhagen do yourself a favour and get your ass to Kiin Kiin! And meanwhile I will find some way to eat this amazing food again sigh pls wait for me
