Taking a break from studying to update this! Clearly life has gotten so boring that food is the most exciting thing I can think about to relieve the stress that is math. Finally checked out Salon at Brixton at the start of Easter break! This is after going to Brixton 999 times - there are just way too many food options there?! But glad we picked this out of the various Sunday brunch options because it was everything we needed for a #sundatebrunchdate

Strange story here - I made a reservation online and didn't realise that they actually served lunch on Sunday and brunch isn't available after 1pm! so they seated us upstairs at 1pm and told us that only the lunch menu was available. After we looked clearly disappointed, they were kind enough to check what they had left to whip up for us, which I'm really thankful for! So despite several communication issues due to the staff coming in from different shifts we finally got what we wanted (:

Salon is a really small space with the cafe downstairs and a cosy little resto upstairs. I loved the decor and the ambience, but I did think that my chair was just a little too close to that of the table behind me hmm. But with sunlight streaming in and getting to people watch on market row, it really was the perfect setting for a chill Sunday brunch.

M got the smoked salmon, poached eggs, kale and hollandaise on spelt & rye soda bread! As all #YTeats goes, my dining companions must always let me try their food, so I can safely say that this is really good!! somehow the kale reminded me of seaweed, and the blend of flavours somehow made this more than a just another regular eggs florentine. M was particularly won over by the soda bread, which had the perfect texture of some cross between cake and bread but also wasn't too dense, and everything paired well (:

I thought long and hard about my choice of food, and was contemplating between the daily special of slow cooked lamb shawarma on a grilled flat bread with pumpkin hummus, pickled red cabbage, pickled chilli & yoghurt and the scrambled eggs with nduja!! But then they didn't have the nduja anymore so I guess that decided it for me haha. I really like the pumpkin hummus on this, and again the bread really impressed. I could do with slightly larger, meatier, chunks of lamb, but flavourwise they've really got everything spot on, and every component really works for this dish. I don't even normally like red cabbage, tbh.

#yolkporn because dat some perfectly cooked eggoz

Ended the meal with a warm banana bread with homemade nutella (hazelnut ganache)! Ok I don't normally get banana bread outside because I have a go-to recipe for banana bread that really works for me, but then homemade nutella sounded really enticing, oops. Much nuttier than nutella, obviously, and not too cloyingly sweet, and chunky. I could spread this on my bread everyday. The banana bread was also moist and not too sweet either, but I wish it was just a leetle toasty on the sides because that's how I like it (-: but then again you can only get that with banana bread fresh out the oven sigh. time to bake again.

I can see myself returning to Salon again, and honestly I think it might become one of my fav brunch spots in London! But then again there are so many I have yet to try so it might be awhile before I come back, but I'll make a mental note here to remember.
